The Biography of Lincoln's Best Friend!!

For those who enjoy a good biography, this is a great story documenting Owen Lovejoy's career as a Senator. There's good reasons why Abraham Lincoln called Lovejoy his best friend. This is the guy who helped put Lincoln in the White House, helping him through the Steven Douglas debates. Lovejoy was actually more well known than Lincoln at the time and helped him campaign.
The book focuses mostly on Lovejoy and what is was like for him to go against the flow as an abolitionist. He was a pastor with enough courage to place an ad in the newspaper letting everyone know he was willing to help hide fugitive slaves in a time when that could have cost him his home and freedom. There is an incredible story in here of how he managed to outthink a mob and help a fugitive escape. Somehow it got him elected to Congress and in the right place at the right time to help Lincoln during one of the most dangerous times in American history.
