He stands before the court…

The crime: murder in the first degree.

The victim: an adulterous wife

Engaging book
By Chris in Denver
I got an eBook reader for Christmas and found this book for free, so I downloaded it more to test the reader than anything. It ended up being a pleasant surprise. The book begins at the trial of a man accused of murdering his wife, then switches between the story that got him to that point and the trial. Witnesses speak of things they saw the defendant do that clearly lead you to believe he was capable of murder, but then when you read what actually happened in the situation, you change your mind. It continues in that see-saw manner right up to the end. Definitely engaging.

This book reads as if it was written in the 40's or 50's, so I was surprised to see it was written in 2008. He did a very good job of giving it a vintage feel.

The Accused is certainly not with out flaws. I felt like the main character changed his personality as the author wrote him, almost like he was evolving in his head, and the end is good, but could have been more dramatic; but all in all, this is a pretty decent book...especially for free.

Thoroughly Enjoyed
By Benjamin
I stumbled on this books while looking through the myster and suspense section and decided to download the book because of its $.99 price. I was not dissapointed in the least while reading this book and enjoyed how the book weaved the testimony of the court case into the story. The story was well written and flowed nicely. If you like classic suspense novels then this one is for you!

Top Notch Drama
By Dave Wilde
I recently while on vacation read three novels by Harold Daniels, the Accused, the Snatch, and In His Blood. Daniels is a terrific writer who effortlessly captures the thoughts and feelings of the characters. In this book, which is told alternately in expository fashion and through a trial transcript, the reader comes to understand how the accused, a good decent man could have come to the point of killing his wife. She was a girl he met on a night out on the town, not knowing that she was a tramp that ran from bar to bedroom to gambling house. This was a marriage from hell as only Daniels could tell it. Highly recommended.
