very sad to read this book in comparison to the first two.

i really liked the first two books, and was looking forward to book 3. but unfortunately i really had a hard time enjoying the book. if book 1 had the style and quality of book 3, i'm sure i wouldn't have continued reading. i'm really sad when the crowning finale of a series is such a let down. it felt almost like it was a different author than book 1.
what i liked:
i still enjoyed the high level story line. it was pretty well thought through and wasn't 100% predictable. i could have imagined it go multiple ways.
what could have been better - lots of tactical things that really detracted from an otherwise good series with a whole lot more potential:
* editing errors - there were numerous of typos, editing errors, and grammatical errors. it's been a long time since i've read a book with so many errors. while this didn't destroy the core storyline, it's kind of like getting a new toy with scratches on it already. oddly book 1 and 2 didn't have these issues.
* way too many gratuitous love scenes. the first book was fantasy with a romance woven in. the second book was more 50/50 balance. this book felt more like a romance book with a plot to tie the scenes together. while i recognize that some people like this type of book, within a series, i think you should stay consistent so that the people who like book 1 will like book 3.
* shallow characters - one of the things i really disliked about this book was how characters with interesting depth and development from book 1 and 2 became shallow and trite in book 3. characters that, from book 1&2, felt like they had strong conviction and meaning to their words and commitments would now make promises and break them faster than they changed underwear. one person with plea with another to promise something... as if their word was their bond. the other would give it with conviction. then turn the page and they've broken it. on the next page they ask "will you forgive me?" "i can never forgive you for that" ... then a page later, "oh, i'll love you forever so i forgive you".
characters will go from strong conviction of emotion, to conflict, to regret to apology to forgiveness in a matter of a couple sentence over and over again. the flippancy of these scenes and the quantity of them just destroyed all the major characters.
do a search on the words "forgive" "sorry" "apologize"...
* [spoiler alert] - several characters were set up well to be really interesting, but then seemingly largely abandoned.
- for example art was set up to be a great inside guy who can provide intel, but after the first book, he was pretty much dropped.
- another example was when accacio entered the battle and started killing... then showed no mercy and killed an unarmed guy on his knees. she seemed to take a step towards the evil ruthless side, which got me interested. but nothing developed from that at all, and as a result it just felt like a break in character.

* [spoiler alert] something not resolved, who's the new nature priest?
i was really saddened reading this book that the series with such potential collapsed in book 3. it felt like a totally different author writing with no editor (or a completely different and less diligent one). i really had high hopes for this and was pretty disappointed.

These series was a good read. I had a hard time agreeing with how the book went along. I am not a writer but don't know if I would have went along this story line and how it ended but I get why it went the way it did. Still enjoyed it.

Good read.

Really liked this one. I was sure I had the ending predicted but I'm glad that everything transpired the way it did. I also liked that this book had more details in regards to the battles/action. Very good series.
