About the Author
Bruno Dyck is Professor at the I.H. Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. He received his Ph.D. in business from the University of Alberta in 1991 and has published dozens of articles and papers, many in leading management journals and publications. Dyck has numerous academic connections within the United States. He is active in the Academy of Management and the ASAC and has been the program and division chair. He serves as an editorial board member for several scholarly journals. For several years, he has been Chairperson for the Research and Publications Committee at his home university, where he has also received the University's Certificate of Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Dyck has also received many grants, research awards, and fellowships, including the Associates Achievement Award for Research in the Faculty of Management.

Mitchell J. Neubert holds the H. R. Gibson Professorship in Management Development at the Hankamer School of Business, Baylor University. He received his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1998. He has published articles and papers in several major management journals and practitioner publications such as the JOURNAL OF APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY, PERSONNEL PSYCHOLOGY, LEADERSHIP QUARTERLY, and BUSINESS HORIZONS. Dr. Neubert teaches both undergraduate business students and executive M.B.A. students. Among many areas in which he serves, he is the Chavanne Chair of Christian Ethics in Business at Baylor University, a board member for the Servant Leadership Institute of Central Texas, the Academy of Leadership Development and Civic Engagement, and the Better Business Bureau, and an academic reviewer for journals such as the ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT JOURNAL. Dr. Neubert also is an active consultant with leaders in both small and large corporations and non-profit organizations.

Great value for price

I used this textbook for a management course (organizational behavior), and with great success. It is clear, well-articulated, current, with substantial references, and the multistream approach is a welcome addition in the leadership field. I would definitely recommend this textbook.

In this concise, straightforward analysis, Jost challenges the historical and theoretical assumptions on which the consumer-driven health care movement is based and reexamines the empirical evidence that it claims as support. He traces the histories of both private health insurance in the United States and the CDHC movement. The idea animating the drive for consumer-driven health care is that the fundamental problem with the American health care system is what economists call “moral hazard,” the risk that consumers overuse services for which they do not bear the cost. The graphics are Great, BUT...

I FOR one am ONE of those people who have pictures IN my mind from reading the SORCERERS RING series of what each character should look like AND I feel awkward reading a picture BOOK because THE Authors version of Thor AND MY picture of Thor are sooooo different...BUT IT would be great FOR someone WHO has NOT already read the whole series..

The good, the bad, and the concerns ...

I have read a significant part of the text versions, I think I managed to get to book 5 or 6 before I had to walk away. That said the graphics seem ok, a bit dark on my paper-white, and a little hard to read due to fairly small screen, and less than perfect vision. I can zoom in which makes reading much easier, if more unwieldy as you have to scroll about, but not too bad with the touch screen technology.

My rating is for the graphics and not for the story, which can be reviewed on the text editions easy enough on Amazon.

My concern is that these graphic books will literally be published chapter to chapter, and we are talking about 17 or so books with many chapters in each book. If Rice uses the same model as the text books you will be paying $3-$4 per chapter, for a story that will get very repetitive, very quickly. On the plus side this gives Rice the opportunity to correct spelling and grammar issues which plagues the authors works across many if not all of the series.

So... I got this free on Bookbub... thank goodness... I wanted to like this book I really did... the fact that there are a large number of books in the series is always a plus! But alas... I just can't like this book. First and foremost... if I heard that so-and-so had an immediate connection with so-and-so one more time I was going to throw-up. "He was like a brother to me" "He was like a father to me" " I fell in love with her more deeply that the deepest ocean" OK that last one I made up but it was almost as gaggy... I realize this is a YA book but, I like to think that the reading youth of today are a little more sophisticated than this. The plot was fast moving... a bit break neck but it was also all over the place... alas it is just not a book I can recommend to ... well... anyone

Loved the book, but do not buy the kindle edition if you need the REAL page numbers there are none. When in class I have to use an equation just to find out what location I have to go to and by the time I figure it out my professor says to go to another page.

As are his other works, this one is distinguished by a pleasant dry wit that readers may seek in vain from most contemporary historians. No less remarkable, Stokesbury accomplishes everything he does in considerably fewer pages than any of his three major coevals used in their books, let alone in less space than is taken by many of the ponderous texts on lightweight topics that burden the shelves of Civil War collections. Good short work

This is a nice introduction to Civil War history. The author does not take sides which is refreshing since a bias is often evident in Civil war books. Between narratives of movements and battles are several short essays about the cause of the war, the economies of the respective nations, and analysis of military doctrine of the period.
The author does a bit of analysis of the key characters and its interesting to see a foreigner's take on the war (Stokesbury is Canadian). One criticism is that the battle descriptions are so short that it is easy to get confused about what took place in the action, and whole complex campaigns can be glossed over. To be fair, this is difficult to avoid in a "short" history of such a protracted war.
The writing is good and some of it stands out (the last paragraph of the book gave me goosebumps). This is a good primer on the Civil war and is recommended.

Great review of the civil war

I bought this book for a nice summary, but not too detailed summary of the Civil War....and thats exactly what I got. Professor Stokesbury writes this wonderful, well researched book on one the most key points in our history. After reading this book I have a new outlook on how close we were to becoming two nations. Each key battle is cleary and methodically discussed, along with some of the stuff outside the battlelines. He is very objective, not favoring either side, and explains the causes of the start and the final collapse of the Confederacy. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick, easy-read summary of the Civil War, or to a history buff.

Great starting point for learning about the Civil War

James L. Stokesbury was a professor of history at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada. He has written numerous short histories of some of the most important wars of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

In this book on the Civil War, Stokesbury takes a vast amount of information (over 50,000 books have been published on the subject) and condenses it into a slim book of just over 300 pages. He covers the broad horizon of this period in a meaningful and entertaining way. Of course, sacrifices must be made. Some of the battle narratives are confusing in their shortened form, but the ebb and flow of the campaigns are accurately portrayed.

Stokesbury's account is remarkably objective generally; however, every Civil War buff has his own opinions about the best and worst of the generals. Stokesbury makes no attempt to hide his feelings about his candidates for the worst.

Many of the trivial details a typical soldier's life are incorporated in the narrative. Also covered are some of the economic, social, and political events which shaped the course of the war.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about this pivotal point in our history but doesn't have the time to commit to some of the larger tomes.

About the Author
Thomas R. Baechle, EdD, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT,*D, is chair of the exercise science and athletic training department at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. In his career covering more than 35 years as a fitness professional and academician, Baechle has earned numerous certifications and awards, taught at various universities, held a variety of professional and civic offices, and volunteered for many national and international associations and organizations related to fitness and personal health.

Baechle is widely published and lectures frequently. His recent honors include receiving the Outstanding Writing Achievement Award from Human Kinetics in 2007, Merit for Excellence in Education and Development of Professional Standards from the International Fitness Institute in 2006, the Distinguished Faculty Service Award from Creighton University in 2002, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NSCA in 1998.

Baechle makes his home with his wife, Susan, in Omaha.

Roger W. Earle, MA, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT,*D, earned his master`s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in exercise science. He is the associate executive director for National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certification, where he is responsible for developing the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) certification exams. Previously Earle served as the head strength and conditioning coach and a faculty member of the exercise science and athletic training department at Creighton University in Omaha.

Earle has over 20 years of experience as a personal fitness trainer for people of all age and fitness levels, and he frequently gives lectures at national and international conferences about designing personalized exercise and training programs. He coauthored the first and second editions of Fitness Weight Training and coedited both the NSCA’s Essentials of Personal Training and the first and second editions of Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning.

Earle enjoys spending time with his wife, Tonya, and their four daughters at their home in Glendale, Arizona.

A MUST for future Strength and Conditioning Coaches

Bought this book for studying to take the CSCS certification one day. Very detailed book and came highly recommended by strength and conditioning coaches I have worked under.

Tons of insightful information, but very poorly edited.

I read through this book cover to cover to learn more about the travel and home based travel agency industry. The information contained within was extremely useful, and provided a terrific overview of the steps necessary to start you own business. Perhaps it made it seem a little too easy to become successful as a home based travel agent, but the ingredients were all there. This included setting up your business, creating a marketing plan, hooking up to the travel provider network, and training involved.
However, I am only giving this book 3 stars because the editing job for this book seemed non-existent. Lack of commas throughout, many typos, blank lines in the middle of paragraphs, grammatical errors, and other basic editing tasks were obviously not done. I can't imagine why this level of polish was left out. If you can ignore this then the book is well worth it for the knowledge gained.
I also wanted to note that the authors promote their own affiliated web sites a little too often throughout the text which wasn't necessary. A more unbiased set of Web links would have been more useful.

This is the book

While there are typos in the book, How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency is an excellent book that helped me make the transition from store front to home based. After 7 years as a retail travel agent, I was forced to go home-based. I looked at both this book and the other one (Home Based Travel Agent) and found this one to represent the information necessary to make the transition. Tom and Joanie Ogg are well known and respected in the travel business and their expertise goes without rival.
Do yourself a favor, this is the book to buy.

Great Book!

I was a "travel agent" for GTI and just didn't get the support I needed and found the benefits non-existent. But I found out that I wanted to become a real travel agent. I bought both books from Amazon.com and found How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency the best book for anyone wanting to start a serious career selling travel. The other book is good if you want to join GTI or organizations like that. I didn't find many errors in it at all.
